Oracle Lite

Has anyone used Personal Oracle Lite 3.0 with JDK 1.1.6? Whenever I try to start the Designer,it just dies after a few seconds. No messages, no prompts, nothing. The documentation says I need JDK 1.1.4 or later. I've set PATH and CLASSPATH (to any combination of .zip, .jar files).
