To be able to use commits that spans more than one type of database, for example DB2 and Oracle, you will need Oracles XA interface with Tuxedo. If you are not spanning different databases in one transaction you do not have to use XA. At least this is my understanding. I know for a fact that there is no problem to use (connect, select etc) an Oracle database from a Tuxedo service without using the XA-protocol.
