I hold me to this, but the reason Dev 2000 and Po8 doesnt work together is because Dev 2000 uses SQL Net and Po8 uses Net8. Both components must be installed and configured. However, when Dev. is installed a new version of SQL Net is installed that is not compatible with Po8.

To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1. install Po8
2. install Dev 2000
3. Re-install Oracle installer from PO8
4. remove SQL Net 2.3.4.00 and SQL Net Adaptors 2.3.4.0.0
5. install SQL Net 2.3.3.0.1 and SQL Net TCP/IP Adaptor from Po8

Note: your tcp/ip protocol adaptor must be installed and configured with valid IP address before you continue

6. configure SQL Net Alias by going to SQL Net Easy Configuration

  1. add database alias
  2. give it a name (anything you like)
  3. select tcp/ip as protocol
  4. enter 'localhost' for tcp/ip host name
  5. go to dos command prompt to and run lsnrctl80; at that prompt type 'start'
  6. start up database

now you should be able to connect to the database form dev. 2000 tools by using the alias you created in step 6 as your connect string.

This should work; if not, let me know . I might be able to help. Good luck!

Tammi
