export on HP-UX 10.x using DLT4000

I am trying to export a ~20GB database to a DLT4000 on my HP running HP-UX 10.2. I am using direct path export and dd to the DLT drive. The performance [Quoted] is very slow. It takes about 7hrs to complete. Is there anyway I can speed up [Quoted] the export process?
my export command is
dd if=dd.pipe of=/dev/rmt/0m&
exp file=dd.pipe direct=y full=y
