We saw a demo and had a copy installed on-site for evaluation. My first impression is that it will be cleaner and easier to use from an Enterprise Architecture point of view. One of the stumbling blocks we've had was the inability to move diagrams between application. I also picked up a book on it for Chapters in Canada by Albert Lulushi. While the focus of the book was on using the tools, it was interesting, if you knew what to look for in terms of new features.

There are several new features which we appreciate. As mentioned above, one is the ability to check in/out diagrams. Another is the ability to generate tabbed forms from within Designer/2000 without the use of VBX/OCX. It also appears that there will be some sort of diagram import capability. This means that client groups will be able to sit with their Info. Architect or Bus. Architect and create a diagram in ABC FLow or Visio and we can then (hopefully) import this diagram directly into a Designer/2000 application.

The interface has been redesigned, and is much cleaner.

As to other benefits, such as flaky operation, etc., this is a tougher call for us, since most of our users are still running in a Win 3.11 environment. A few of our user, running on 95 have had a more stable tool set to work with. Since the new version only runs on 95 and above, I know that all our users will be much happier.

We will be moving to v2.1 the first weekend of June.

Good luck with your move to v2.1
