Menu focus

We are running FORMS 4.5 on VMS 7.1 with ORACLE 7.3 and we have a problem with menu focus.
We navigate down the menu hierarchy and eventually select a form. Once we attempt to return to the menu, focus is returned to the root menu and not the sub-menu.
Any suggestions?
