Typical mainframe stuff. The short names were useful 20 years ago in the old
days ... when there was no space for longer names. Like the good old 8 character
Ms-DOS. Well, now they have the Y2000 problem ... mainly on mainframes !

A reasonably concise name is much better. I prefer names shorter then 20 characters for tables, but if you need to then go right ahead, this is the nineties after all !
