Did you ever try to start the listener? These errors are normal if the listener is not running. Try to start it up: lsnrctl start

Also, what is your $TNS_ADMIN environment variable set to? This will determine where the listener looks for the listener.ora file. You probably want to set iit to $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
