Chaperon - the Danet System Monitor

Chaperon is a customizable and easy to use real-time monitoring application that allows you to oversee your important daily system operations.

Chaperon helps you spot the first signs of trouble, preventing interruption of your normal business activities. System processes, resources, and files can be monitored - you tell Chaperon what to watch and what to do when it detects trouble, and it will then notify an operator via the graphical interface when trouble occurs, so that corrective action can be taken. If desired, Chaperon can be configured to take action automatically upon problem detection to help resolve the alarm condition.

Chaperon’s resource monitoring functionality allows system components such as disk space, database table sizes, or CPU utilization to be tracked. Once Chaperon detects that a threshold has been crossed, an alarm can be displayed and action can be taken to resolve the alarm. Actions can occur automatically or manually, depending upon the configuration.

The process monitoring functionality allows for the monitoring of common or mission critical processes that run on a system. Monitoring can be configured to notify operation centers when important batch jobs start or when critical daemon processes stop. Chaperon can be configured to automatically react to these alarms so that the delay between failures and restarts is minimal.

Enacting the file monitoring functionality causes Chaperon to watch for the creation of common files on a system. This may be used to notify operation centers of important data file deliveries or the creation of log files generated by erring processes. Chaperon can even be configured to issue a warning as soon as specific error text is logged to the files that have been targeted for monitoring. Automatic actions can also be configured to react to these notifications.

Chaperon gives you an easy way to monitor hardware and software 24 hours a day, thereby preventing unexpected events from causing down time or slowing operations. Chaperon’s configuration interface provides a quick and simple method to set up custom objects for monitoring, and to specify the precise level of monitoring that should take place.
