I have just spent some time getting this to work & the Oracle HelpLine has let me know that there is a bug (#472169) where email & specifying the desformat of pdf or html fails. (Fix expected in Ver 1.6)
In my case I got
REP-1893: lspecies.rdf '' is not supported on this platform. Valid options:
