  • ORACLE ANNOUNCES EXPRESS OBJECT 2.1 AND DATA MART SALES & MARKETING SUITE Oracle announced the availability of its Data Mart Sales and Marketing Suite for Windows NT, as well as an upgraded version of its OLAP tool, Express Object 2.1. The sales and marketing edition of Oracle's Data Mart suite contains software and training support needed to create and access a sales and marketing data mart. Express Object 2.1 is a companion product to the recently announced Express Server 6.1 and Oracle's analysis tool, Express Analyzer.
  • BORLAND ACQUIRES VISIGENIC SOFTWARE Borland International Inc. announced a definitive agreement to acquire object technology vendor Visigenic Software Inc. in a stock-swap valued at approximately $140 million. The acquisition gives Borland two competitive weapons: fully integrated enterprise development systems and Visigenic’s customer base.
  • INFORMIX REPORTS $278 MILLION REVENUE ADJUSTMENT Informix Corp. announced the results of an extensive audit of its financial records going back to 1994, which resulted in downward adjustments to reported revenue of $278 million and net income of $236 million.
  • ORACLE OFFERS INFORMIX CUSTOMERS MIGRATION PATH TO ORACLE8 On the heels of Informix’s disappointing audit results, Oracle announced Oracle "Safe Switch," an Informix conversion program offering Informix customers, as well as other database customers around the globe, a migration route to Oracle8.
  • ORACLE OUTLINES NETWORK COMPUTING STRATEGIES IN INDIA, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE, AND VIETNAM At the Asia-Pacific Information Technology Summit, Larry Ellison announced that Oracle has initiated six major projects to bring the benefits of the network computing infrastructure to Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) countries.
  • ORACLE CORP. LAUNCHES ACADEMIC INITIATIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES Also at the Asia-Pacific Information Technology Summit, President Fidel V. Ramos of the Philippines witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Oracle Corp. and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Foundation of the Philippines. With this agreement, the Philippines becomes the first international participant in the $50 million Oracle Academic Initiative (OAI).
