Hi Janin,

I am not a professional Oracle technologist. I hope I can help on the SP side.

Oracle 7.3.2.1 onwards have parallel version for SP. See:http://www.oracle.com/platforms/ibm/sp/html/spmatrix.html

Oracle parallel edition would not be very different unless you have done a very comprehensive tuning on the system side. (Thus your application may not improve significantly.) Unlike ture distributed RDBMS like DB/2 and Informix, what Parallel Server relies on is VSD and related disk operations. With VSD database servers see a large pool of disks which servers on the other nodes can share. If the data that all nodes want are mostly on one or two nodes you still have disk contention problems, unless you stripe volumes across nodes.

Oracle 8 will be a different story, but I am not familiar with O8.

Regards,

Gustav
