We are preparing for the next round of beta testing for a new database documentation tool. The first round was limited to "sponsor" companies, but we feel that it is time that we got feedback from a wider audience.

Watershed Technologies is developing SchemaModeler, a database documentation tool that allows anyone to create an intranet "web site" containing the schema and documentation about the schema. This tool is very useful to anyone creating a data warehouse, it provides a central location for documenting the structure and contents of any database. SchemaModeler is capable of reverse-engineering a database and providing a graphical view of the tables, relations, and stored procedures.

SchemaModeler also works in conjunction with SQLEngineer a sister product that is also entering early beta testing. SQLEngineer replaces isql, dbaccess, and sqlplus with a single easy to use interface that also makes use of all documentation created with SchemaModeler.

The product is written in Java and should work with any JDBC driver. However at this time all development has been done with Weblogic's (http://www.weblogic.com) drivers. Sybase, Oracle, and Informix have been tested and seem to work. We have found Weblogic's drivers to be the most JDBC specification compliant drivers and thus chose them as the drivers we use for development. In the future we do expect to support other drivers depending on customer demand.

We are looking for a diverse set of beta testers.

If you are interested please contact us and supply: Database Vendor and version.
Database Host Operating System and version number. Client systems.
General requirements.

Thank you for your time,
Dirk Fromhein
