I don't think any ordinary Internetters knowingly would download pirated SW - most people feel too strongly about basic things as honesty etc. Or rather you don't steal from your 'friends' - in this connection friends would be SW houses that have a reputation for good service (ie. 'friendliness') and reliability, openness etc. I suspect that if you make a survey of how big a percentage is pirated compared to what is sold of individual SW products, you'll see a connection between good/bad reputation in general terms and low/high pct. pirated.

BTW please don't read this as if I expressed an moral opinion about this.
