Yes, I have an application.
I *believe* that the name/connect string/TNS alias is merely documentation in the RON - it doesn't actually do anything?
Anyway, I'm now veering towards seeing this as a SQL*Net problem - I've just noticed that database links don't work between our machines and this is the mechanism used by Des2k to do the connection.
