Hello:

My host computer is an IBM RS/6000 running operating system AIX 4.1.4. I have upgraded the database software to ORACLE 7.3.2.3 and the COBOL software to MicroFOCUS COBOL version 4. I have also installed DEVELOPER 2000 release 1.3.1. My problem occurs during the compiling process of COBOL programs which contain embedded SQL statements. I invoke the compilation with the command make -f procob.mk {cobolsource}. The appropriate source file having a .pco extension is substituted in place of {cobolsource}. The precompiler creates the appropriate files having extensions .cob, .o, .int, and .lis. When the COBOL compilation begins, I receive the following two warnings: (1) Duplicate symbol signgam, and (2) Replaced XTY_CM symbol signgam requires an alignment more strict thatn the alignment of the symbol that replaces it. After I receive the previous warnings, I receive a long fatal error message regarding 94 different undefined symbols. The first of these undefined symbols is iapprs and the last of these symbols is slkfpi.

A COBOL compilation of a program which does not contain any embedded SQL statements works without any errors.

Any words of guidance which you can provide to me regarding the problem described in the first paragraph are greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Michael Todd
