  1. You are right, this cannot reaaly be done in FORMS.
  2. Might I suggest you have a word with your DBA or Datbase designers. If the value is the same in all detail records for one master, then it should BE in the master record (if not the same, then sorting the master on it would be meaningless). The only reason for putting it in the detail record would be if denormalising for performance reasons, and then it should be in BOTH records.
