  1. Don't run applications when logged in as system. This is your default DBA account, create a user to run the app from
  2. Create private or public synonyms to point to the tables and grant access to the user for the objects. Then everything should work
  3. I fail to see why granting access to roles is a bad idea. This is the preferred way of granting access to multiple database objects.
