SECANT TECHNOLOGIES ATTENDS ORACLE 8 TM PRODUCT LAUNCH
NEW YORK, June 24, 1997- Secant Technologies announced that it will atten=
d
the June 24, 1997 product launch ceremony for Oracle8, Oracle's
next-generation database for network computing. Secant will have live
demonstrations available showcasing its Persistent Object Manager (POM)
product's interface to Oracle8, a key strategic technology in the area of=
object-oriented persistence.
The company will attend the main launch ceremony in New York as one of a
handful of vendors invited to attend. There will also be Secant
representatives at the Oracle8 satellite launch in Chicago. While Secant'=
s
products have always provided a high level of support for Oracle database=
s,
being invited to participate in this important product launch has
highlighted Secant's long-time commitment to object-oriented database
technology, and more specifically, its new Oracle8 support. Technical
representatives will be available at both locations to answer questions. =
Secant has extended its flagship product, the Secant Persistent Object Manager (POM) to provide developers with native C++ and Java programming interfaces to the Oracle8 universal data server. With Oracle8 and POM, application developers can build object-oriented applications and store their data as native objects. POM's simple, easy-to-use interface allows developers to leverage the native object support of Oracle8.
Oracle8TM, the Database for Network ComputingTM, manages large amounts of=
information securely, reliably and economically over computer networks.
Oracle8 is a versatile information platform that enables high-speed
transactions, better business decisions, and sophisticated object-relatio=
nal
applications. Built on a foundation of proven technology, Oracle8 is
designed to lower an organization's computing costs, manage all types of
data, and deliver faster information access to all kinds of users.
With the Secant tools, developers will have direct and easy access to the=
object features built into the new Oracle=AB server. Oracle8 can manipula=
te
each type of data found in an enterprise-from object, relational and
spatial, to text, image, video, and audio. POM for Oracle8 allows these
object types to be represented natively in C++ and Java applications
eliminating the impedance mismatch normally associated with objects and
relational tables. Applications will now run faster using the
object-relational model, and with POM, the software development process i=
s
simpler and much faster.
[Quoted] "The POM interface makes it easy to access the object features built into=
Oracle8," explains Ross Leidy, Senior Software Architect at Secant Technologies. "With POM, C++ and Java application developers can take advantage of Oracle's object technology without having to write low-level=
database storage code. POM's code generation technology saves time for developers to focus on developing applications instead of middleware."
Oracle8 is the first data server to bring the benefits of object programm=
ing
into mainstream corporate computing environments. The Oracle8 proven
object-relational technology offers an improved way of defining data
structures, allowing users to define custom object types. An object type =
is
typically defined to correspond to some business object, such as an
insurance claim. These objects may contain multiple attributes, operation=
s,
and may be nested within other datatypes allowing complex business entiti=
es
to be represented natively in the database.
[Quoted] "Oracle8 allows users to manage both object and relational data in one
database," said Brian Spoutz, Vice President of Technical Support Service=
s
at Oracle. "This reduces development efforts, which in turn save companie=
s
time and money, by allowing them the flexibility to model data in a way t=
hat
best maps to business requirements."
Secant Technologies is a software products and services company that
specializes in distributed object technology and object-relational
middleware. The Persistent Object Manager product provides a comprehensiv=
e
architecture and easy-to-use set of development tools and object services=
that integrate C++ and Java business objects with CORBA and a variety of
database technologies. It enables developers to build enterprise-level
object models, map them to relational, universal, and other databases, an=
d
then deploy them in two- and three-tier applications. POM provides an
object-database interface to standard and universal database servers. Usi=
ng
this interface, programmers can develop using objects, and let POM handle=
the complexity of mapping objects into and out of the database. For three-tier and Web/Object applications, POM integrates into a CORBA infrastructure by providing a set of distributed-object services and powerful code-generation tools that generate the CORBA and thin- client business objects. These tools dramatically reduce development time and eliminate the complexity of developing distributed object applications. =
