I have NO idea what the new version of SQL does... I've the old and very basic version.
I suppose that you have seen SQL*Plus for Oracle and that is NOT what you are referring to. As a result, why not use Server Manager? Just type SVRMGR or SVRMGR23 at the prompt (DOS?). When you get the SVRMGR> prompt just type in CONNECT username/password_at_connect-id? That connects you to the database (for real) and allows you to do your regular SQL statements just fine.
