I think you've done well to get such a low margin of error!!!

Another method for sizing is to use the Sizing reports in Designer/2000, although this would still not produce deadly accuracy. The point to bear in mind is that any estimation for sizing is just that - an estimate.

The most accurate method I've come across is to project figures based on a development database - if you've got a table consisting of 500 rows taking up 75K, then it is a reasonable assumption to say that when loaded with 500,000 rows, it will take up 75Meg. If you are going to have to size a database consisting of 1000 segments, you may find this a better method, bearing in mind the quantity and quality of information you have to supply to calculate sizings using the Oracle algorithm.

--I built an excel spreadsheet to calculate table/indexes sizes based on
--the information in the Oracle 7.1 SA guide. When I run existing tables
--through this spreadsheet, the figures always seem to end up about 25% on
--the high side. I triple checked the formulas, and they are exactly as
--outlined in the guide. Does anyone know if this is a growth factor
--built in to the formulas. I'd be very interested in formulas anyone
--else has come up with. In the very near future I will be calculating
--nearly 1000 tables and associated indexes. I'd very much like a more
--accurate formula.
