Oracle Terminal

What's the deal with Oracle Terminal? This beast is full of bugs, hasn't been documented since Aug '93, and I need it to work to convert a *lot* of Forms 3.0 apps to Forms 4.5 (character mode).

I've been trying to create some .res files with keymappings which duplicate our existing Forms 3.0/Menu 5.0 mappings but there's just a whole lot of stuff you have to figure out by trial and error. Case in point: After you edit a keymap with oraterm23m (aka t23desm, but called simply "ot" in most of the docs and help screens), doing the oraterm generate is not sufficient. You still have to exit oraterm and run otgen23 to compile the keymap bindings into binary "bindtables" and you have to know which subcomponents to specify to otgen23. Note that otgen23 itself isn't officially supported or documented anywhere I could find (a paragraph in the Dev2K 1.3 IG doesn't qualify as documentation).

This whole thing is really aggrevating. The basic design of the .res file is pretty strange and the people at Oracle who created the stock ones they ship don't understand the product any better than we customers.

Based on the design, it appears that one, grand .res should be able to habdle definitions for all products and all terminal types, yet for some reason they cooked-up this naming convention wherein each product looks for its own .res, meaning if you need to redo a terminal definition, you have to do it in ob*.res, fmr*.res, tk2*.res, r25*.res, etc. What were they thinking?

Does anyone know of any decent documentation for tk23 and Oracle Terminal? All the tk23 references in the distributed READMEs refer to file directories on private machines at Oracle Corporation which the rest of us can't access and books with part numbers which their web site doesn't recognize. HELP!
