Experiences with the Context option

We plan on using the Context option to index 1.5 million records of generally less than 1K in size (plain text). Does any of you have experiences with Context? Is it a stable and finished product?
We've installed it a month ago on a Digital Alpha 2100 with 512 Mb's of memory. We find that it is a little slow with response times of 30-60 seconds for 200 hits. The 30-60 seconds are from the time I hit enter untill the first record is shown on the screen. I am using Sql*plus.
Also it looks as if Oracle uses very large amounts of storage for the records, at least 2K per record? Sounds familiar?
