DES2K - Non-database field creation

I am currently trying to reverse engineer our client/server system into DES2K. Our initial screen is a non-database field that the user enters the date desired to be used for sub-sequent calls to other forms. This field is linked to a global variable. To create a module in DES2K it seems you must have DTU. Is there a way to do this without a DTU or even to create a global variable?
