Getting the number of rows held in a cursor..

Hey all-
Does anyone out there know how to get the total number of rows held in a cursor, be for you have done a fetch one it??? I'm using Pro*C and would like to avoid counting the number of rows successfully fetched, I was hoping there was a status variable somewhere that held this information. sqlca.sqlerrd[2] comes close....
