Encryption Question

Howdy,
I am writing an application that needs to encypt/decrypt data when writing/reading to/from a field in a database. From what I have seen Developer does not have an inbuilt encryption algorithm (unlike SQL Windows).
Has anybody used one or give me a recommendation?
