Please do run it by Kevin to ensure I didn't fall into any inconsistency. The subject is very complex and with many nuances and it is only too easy to say too much or too little and mess up the overall message as a result. I struggle to explain these concepts as English is not my prime language and it's not easy to put it all in sensible, coherent text. If you need me to do any testing/verification, just holler: I'm taking the next 2 days off annual leave and have free time to go check in detail if needed. What I said is mostly applicable to Unix, specifically to the latest releases of Aix. Linux - and Windows, of course! - handle things differently.
