The group has a charter, and it also has members. The group is the sum of its members. The group is unmoderated, so you can post whatever you want. However, if you post stuff that most people consider spam, your online reputation will suffer. So please, there are more appropriate places to post your links, don't post them here. Take the hint, if people are telling you that you are spamming, you probably are! Think about it. If you actually wanted to talk about Oracle, you would be ostracised for your previous behavior. On the other hand, if you participated in Oracle discussions and had a short sig file with your link in it, people might accept you.

Understand that you are not the first person to have the idea of posting links here to some blog. Most of those have been bad, either plain wrong, plagiarism or some silly get-rich-quick-with-google-posts scheme. So even if you are good, you are putting yourself in with the bad. Since you are responding, that is a good sign, most Real Spammers don't respond, and the clueless eventually give up and go away. That's why we think it is a good thing to point out spamming - those who come later see that we care about the group and what its mores are. It's totally useless for Real Spammers, of course, but they are beyond help anyways.

Sharing knowledge is a good thing, but it needs to be tempered with rationality. If Ghandi, Stephen Hawking and Tom Kyte all started sharing their knowledge at you with bullhorns at the same time, would you learn anything?

I for one would be amenable to posts like this not being spam, were it not so abused. Links to directly applicable Oracle knowledge are less easy to abuse. But still, this is usenet, and the point is to have back and forth communication, not one-way signs to information.
