I generally agree, certainly with the sentiment. But the one big thing that is different is the rapidity of the sales cycle. Rather than the whole RFP and budget process, a company can feel like they are being responsive to their market (or able to grab economy-goosing stimulants) by being able to say "make it so." As salescritters know, you have to strike while the iron is hot. Cloud is cooking with gas. So the smart thing is highly subject to reality distortion fields (yes, I'm part way through the Jobs biography).
