Normally when creating a database you either
- have a lot of experience and knowledge and if you are doing it manually know ALL the steps that have to be done and in the correct order
- use the GUI ( dbca ) which will do all the steps for you
The maintenance question is because the base releases ( "free" ) software that oracle let's you download are missing a whole bunch of fixes. The base releases may or may not be very stable in other words ... and putting on maintenance gets one typically to a more stable and workable system. Received on Sat May 14 2011 - 08:23:48 CDT
