That was my question. The article that I remembered compared keeping procedures in the shared pool to setting the sticky bit. The argument was rather philosophical in nature, but I don't remember it. Sticky bit, as we all know, is obsolete. On Linux, there is a "readahead" package which does what setting the sticky bit used to do, but the functionality of the sticky bit is definitely gone from Oracle*Solaris 10 and the latest version of HP-UX.
