Searching Text

Hi,
I need to be able to search some text, basically company names, and I'm only looking to match on the first letter of each 'word'. So, if I was looking for B then International Business Machines would give me a match on the letter B in Business. If I was looking for 'N', then I would not get any match at all.
I was looking at Oracle Text, but I think that is a bit much and complex for this application. I can parse each name on spaces and such and try it that way, but I was wondering if Oracle had a better way of doing it.
We are on 10g R2.
