This is an unsupported version of it. No support from Oracle. If it's any consolation, I am running 11G RAC/ASM on CentOS 5.2. Works like a charm.

Hmmm, you can't access control file. From what you wrote a little bit later, it is not lost, it is only inaccessible. Many things can cause this. What kind of storage are you using?
