Thank you very much for your response. I did find an obscure link saying it is an obsolete parameter in an upgrade bulletin (Note: 159657.1) but can not find actual Oracle documentation any more. The parameter is listed at the very bottom of the page under "Appendix A: Obsolete parameters in 9i:
