Thanks. I think the 10gR1 Instant Client would be sufficient as far as client-side - basically just need a sqlplus, although the facilities in something like TOAD or PL/SQL Developer (I think that's 3rd party) would be real nice on my desktop ;-)

I would still like to get the Oracle 'engine' installed server-less on the same MAC as the Instant Client - that's key. I hope the OTN forums will help there - but forgive my obtuseness - what does OTN stand for?
