And to round it out considerable value has been found, in many situations, in making the node identifier part of the primary key where surrogates (sequences) are involved. You can capture it with: dbms_utility.current_instance

And don't forget to leverage code such as: dbms_output.active_instances
dbms_output.is_cluster_database
