The disadvantages are overwhelming. You are talking about a complete violation of governance, compliance, performance, scalability, and security as well as good sense.

Microsoft Access is a toy best left for those who can't tell the difference between a database and a spreadsheet.

If you want to front-end an application use APEX (HTML_DB), use Oracle Forms, use JDeveloper, use SOA Suite. But Access is brain-dead bloatware.

Did I mention I don't like Access? <g>
