Well you have always been free to create the ORACLE_HOME as you so desire.

However the new names are oracle's recommendations. It allows you to put multiple oracle homes at the same release level aka 10.2.0/db_1 and 10.2.0/db_1 but allows separate maintenance ( patchset validation and testing for example ).

A better question might be what standards are in effect for oracle installs at your site? Do they follow oracle's recommendations and why or why not? Received on Fri Oct 12 2007 - 07:03:19 CDT
