I think -invptr option in runInstaller was added only in 10g. Reason
people have many OraInventories is because they do not want to affect
all Oracle installation by corruption in one OraInventory file. On
shared UNIX servers in corporations, especially in development
enevironments, there may be 10-50 Oracle installations on a server
and Oracle Inventory provides less risk and more flexibility. That is
reason Oracle has added
-invptr option to runInstaller.
