The answer is as simple as this..If your application scales linearly on an SMP machine then it will certainly scale on RAC. If your application does not scale on a single instance, it will certainly not scale in RAC. As noted in my book, RAC can be compared to a stereo amplifier. If the original music is good, you will hear a good music with RAC. If the original music has a lot of noise, RAC will amplify that noise and the outcome is generally horrible. A well performing application in a single instance will perform equally well or outperform when implemented on RAC
