I've had such a problem once where a junior shut down the database and deleted a datafile. Luckily, it was from an indextablespace. So i was able to drop that one and rebuilded it. Possible here?

 it seems you have a live experiment now to test this theory. Remember: A couple of months in the laboratory can frequently save a couple of hours in the library. ;-)
