IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification

Hi,
I am trying to import one dump file in a scheme. When try to import it through Imp parfile command from cmd.exe i am getting the following error:

IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

Later I came to know that the dump file has been ftp-ed in ascii mode. The thing is i am not able to export the file for the second time. Is there any workaround for converting this ascii file to binary. Even i tried some tool for converting but all in vain.
