Just came across the same error a few minutes ago while installing 10gR2  on an Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 system. I solved by installing a package called "compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.i386.rpm" that was on OEL5 disc 2.

I don't know the Debian distribution, but perhaps this information could be of some help.
