No, you should read the thread - the archived redo log files were still on disk - and those went up in flames. Hypothetically, of course.

And the whole issue is not RMAN, is not Oracle - it the application that uses a vault (whatever...), and is database independent for all it matters.

Probably, this boils down to something that uses the database (be it Oracle, SS or Infornix) for everything but data - data is in the vault, and the vault is files.

Now - how do you make a *consistent* backup of that?

PS - my bet, it's an application written in Java. - --
