You're welcome. This is why I'm not against guessing, a proper scientific inquiry requires much more data than is found in the typical real situation. Scientific inquiry is appropriate for supporting assertions, proper education, root cause analysis and so forth. For a call for help such as yours, a simple nudge in the right direction (in this case, examination of existing instrumentation) is useful. Guessing only becomes a problem when formulaic answers are used inappropriately (like, not looking for what is going on and just telling people to read the docs and reinstall, or myth propagation, or avoiding using a proper methodology that is well-known). I'm wondering whether support asked you for logs, and what they did if you gave them. Metalink has docs about how to submit a support call, and their processes should support that. A lazy analyst doesn't help anyone.

Thanks for updating everyone with what you did and what worked. A quick search on metalink for:
symbolic link apps install
leads to some clarification, see especially Note:342332.1 check #16.
