Thats just for the web applications, all together we have 400+ connections. Web connections are expected to increase around 10 times in the next few months. Connections that are not from the web, are usually long queries.

As described, its asp.net application, short queries, most of the sessions idle.

Given the fact that the memory the processes are allocating are making AIX use the swap, is the overhead not worth trading over swapping?

Also, one has to consider having hundreds of processes vs. a few, transfers the overhead to the OS kernel (context switches to start with).
