Hi Daniel,
I'm not even worried about rolling upgrades at this stage. Though I didn't know that you couldn't do a rolling upgrade on a two-node cluster. We just moved our production and non-production environments to two-node clusters, so this definitely is relevant info for us. Do you remember where you read about this? (If not, I'll hunt around myself, but I'm rather pressed for time right now.)
About the initial issue: when I try to install a single node cluster, the error I get suggests that the installation script is looking for a second node, despite the fact that it happily accepts a single node entry (with 3 addresses, of course) during the network interface configuration phase of the installation. Let's assume I create a two node cluster, remove one node, and ship the remaining single node cluster to the DR site. Let's assume that Oracle releases a critical patch which I really need. I will need to upgrade the software on both our primary and DR site as they must be kept in sync because of Dataguard. What I'm worried about is that, similar to a single node cluster installation, the installation script for the upgrade will also look for the second node, and fail because it won't find it.
Hope this at least clarifies my main issue with this setup.
