Hello,

if you work with a oracle DB 9.2.0.8 and Windows 2003, be careful with the rman backup.

We run in a bad bug after upgrade from 9.2.04 to 9.2.0.8 with the CPU JAN 2007 patch.

We can save with RMAN, on problem, but know we have a problem to use this backups!
The Base Bug ID is: 5915901

IF you the following error:

RMAN> validate backupset 5678;

allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=29 devtype=DISK
RMAN-00571:

RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS

RMAN-00571:

RMAN-03002: failure of validate command at 05/24/2007 17:16:07 ORA-01405: fetched column value is NULL
RMAN-06159: error while looking up backup set

The same error you will get, if you must do a restore of the database.

So all backup you have done after the upgrade is worthless....since months..

And you don't notize it, until you need it, but then it is to late !!!

The error will be fixed form Oracle, but why to aktiv talk with us about this problem!!!!

Now I do my backup in the old fashion way with ..alter tablespace xxxx begin backup.. and so on.
I like RAM....

Regards
