In real world, you as DBA usually don't have root privileges on your Oracle servers. So you either need some time to let setup NFS by someone else with appropriate access or you waste disk space on remote site. There are scenarios where you just need the NFS for setting up the standby and not any longer afterwards.

People spend a lot of money for Oracle licences, so IMHO they can ask for comfortable professional software.

Sure, when playing around with your Linux boxes at home, you don't know these project slow-downs... ;-)
