Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Morons in the oracle land (and list)
The experience was surreal: guy asks a list how to deal with the
"temporary table problem". He has a table that he wants to create in
a PL/SQL script to be a "local temporary table" (yes, it does resemble
a SQL server way of doing business, doesn't it?) and another guy,
allegedly an expert, advises him to create a DDL trigger that will take
care of the problem.
I reacted by pointing out that this is precisely the way inefficient
applications are created and that the application should be properly
planned and created by someone somewhat more experienced with Oracle
and was castigated by the powers that be.
Question: is there any other DBA on this group who has suffered because
of idiots trained on SQL Server and convinced that all databases are the
same? Anybody else here who thinks that the application code should
include DDL and who didn't know how to use REF cursors? I am not as gifted
as Heinlein was but I am entertaining the thought of publishing my next
article about being a DBA in the The Register. I will officially start
collecting war stories from this group and from the oracle-l. Those
among you who know why I chose The Register are cordially invited to
contribute a story or two.
